Coaches Arrive & Head Out To Enjoy Silver Star's Powder

Most of this years AWSC coaches and staff have arrived at Silver Star over the past few days. They didn't waste anytime getting out onto the mountain and enjoying the awesome early season conditions Silver Star has on offer at the moment. With a week until we kick off and more snow on the way in the next couple of days things are looking fantastic for this years programs.

Silver Star resort is now open for the 2006 / 07 winter following heavy snowfalls throughout BC over the past couple of weeks. With 5 lifts open and more snow predicted over the next week the season is off to a great start. |

Andrea Berchtold - Joins The AWSC Coaching Crew

AWSC is pleased to announce that Andrea Berchtold, one of Australia's leading freeskiers will be coaching with AWSC this year. Andrea was one of Australia's leading mogul skiers and skied at World Cup for many years. Andrea is also one of Australia's most well known freeskiers and has taken out many events over the years. Andrea has also coached at Whistler summer camps so combined with his mogul and freeski background is a fantastic addition to the AWSC team. |

AWSC Announces The Appointment of Alpine Races Coaches

AWSC is pleased to announce the appointment of our Alpine Race Coaches for the 2006 / 2007 program. Head Coach will be John Armstrong of Canada. John is a level 4 CSIA instructor and CSCF level 3 race coach and also the head coach of the Mt Ruapehu New Zealand Race Club during the southern hemisphere winters. Assisting John is Ben Griffin, New Zealand National team member. Ben has a strong competitive background and has worked with John for several years. Together we're sure they'll do a great job with our group and be able to pass on some fantastic knowledge and experience.

Charles Beckinsale Returns To Coach With AWSC

One of Australia's leading riders and an AWSC 05/06 coach Charles Beckinsale is retuning to AWSC again this year to coach with the freestyle snowboard program. Based at Thredbo during the Australian winter Charles is one of the most well know, respected and skilled riders and coaches in Australia. Everyone involved in last years AWSC snowboard program benefited from Charles' experience and this year will be no different. We welcome Charles back and look forward to another big year.

Lukas Prem - New AWSC Alpine Snowboard Coach

Austrian Lukas Prem has just been appointed to the role of Head Alpine Snowboard Coach for AWSC. Lukas was a member of the Austrian National team and competed on the World Cup Circuit for several year. Lukas has also been coaching for many years and spent several seasons as the head snowboard coach for the Mt Buller Race Club. We're looking forward to having Lukas join the AWSC coaching team and his knowledge and coaching experience will enhance the AWSC Alpine Snowboard program. |

AWSC GOSSS... Mentors Dominating @ Australian Comps

AWSC GOSSS Mentors Steph Hickey and Zoe Jaboor have been cleaning up at events held at Australian resorts over the past few weeks.
At the X-games held last week in NSW Steph Hickey picked up Gold in the Women's BX while Zoe Jaboor took home Bronze in the Women's Slopestyle (ski). Zoe also collected Bronze in the Women's Rails at the Pepsi Freeride at Buller the week prior. Steph also won the Billabong banked slalom at Hotham prior to her X-games win.
We look forward to seeing the results that both girls will have on the athletes in the GOSSS program. |

AWSC was proud to sponsor the Australian National Mogul Championships held at Perisher Blue on the 18th and 19th August. The two day event was held under clear skies and on a great course. With teams from Canada, Japan, Sweden, Czech, and Korea the level of competition was one of the highest ever seen in Australia. The event was a huge success and AWSC looks forward to supporting the event and mogul skiing in the future.

AWSC Stand at Victorian Interschool Presentations-Aug 20-25...

The AWSC stand will be located at the presentations held in the great hall at La Trobe University each day at 5.30. Ebbern and Sammer return to AWSC to coach...

Canadian Chris Ebbern has confirmed he'll be back with AWSC for his fourth year as the Head Freeski coach. Chris' exceptional coaching skills and ability to nail the big tricks make him the logical choice. Olympic Rider Benny Mates and World Cup Rider Steph Hickey join the AWSC Coaching Crew ...'NEW'

Two of Australia's hottest riders have joined the AWSC coaching crew for this years camps. 2006 Torino Winter Olympian Benny Mates will be coaching the snowboard program, while World Cup rider Steph Hickey will be a mentor for the GOSSS... program and the youth program Chaperone.
Benny Mates spent 2 years on AWSC camps before spending the past 4 years on the Australian World Cup Half Pipe Team. Benny was a member of the 2006 Australian Olympic Team and is one of Australia's hottest all round riders. We welcome him back to AWSC and am sure all participants will benefit from his vast experience.
Like Benny, Steph has also spent time with AWSC as a participant. Steph had gone one to be one of Australia's leading female riders and has competed BX at Nor-Am and World Cup level. Steph's infectious personality and super solid riding making her a perfect choice for the AWSC Youth and GOSSS... programs. |

Mc Niel, Begg and Jaboor Return to Coach for AWSC...'NEW' N

Peter Mc Niel returns to AWSC for his third year and will again take control of the mogul program. Pete is a past member of the National Development Mogul Team and is still an active competitor on the Australian circuit. Based at Mt Buller, Pete is a Team Buller member and Mogul Coach for the Buller Riders program. He has a fantastic technical knowledge of mogul skiing and is very passionate and enthusiastic about coaching and seeing athletes improve.
Beggsy returns to AWSC for his fifth year as head freestyle snowboard coach. His extensive coaching and judging experience has been invaluable over the years in developing the skills of all those who have ridden with him. We welcome him back and look forward to another big winter
Zoe Jaboor is returning to AWSC as the off snow operations coordinator. Zoe will again be looking after the off snow component of AWSC camps and this year will be a GOSSS... mentor also. Zoe is a Buller based skier who coaches with Team Buller and Buller Riders during the winter and is an active competitor on Australian and overseas freeski circuit. Along with being a professional skier and coach, Zoe is also an Occupational Therapist and a past AWSC participant.

New Lift for Silver Star: 'NEW'

Silver Star recently announced there will be a brand new chairlift transporting skiers and boarders in theAttridge area for the 06/07 winter. This $1.5 million Doppelmayr ‘Unistar' fixed-grip quad chair will have a capacity of 1,200 people per hour. With 743 metres (2,450 feet ) in length and 229 metres (750 feet) of vertical, the Alpine Meadows Chair will be a quick 5 minute ride to the top and constructed during the summer of 2006, ready for the opening of the 2006-2007 winter season. |
