We're Back!!

The 2007 / 2008 AWSC Silver Star Camp is officially underway with the first group arriving today from Australia. Touch down in Kelowna was just before 11.00am after a stop in hot and humid Honolulu and a chilly Vancouver. All bags arrived (except for one) which is a pleasant change for Air Canada who normally loose heaps of bags. Jay Ghattas was the only one who was missing a bag, but hopefully it should be here later this evening.

We loaded everyone in the vans and hit the road for the 50 minute drive to Silver Star but not before stopping off in Vernon at Attridge Ski and Board for the annual shopping spree. It was a little reminiscent of the ‘running of the bulls’ with everyone filing through the doors and rummaging through all the new gear. There were skis, boards, boots, jackets, pants gloves and helmets flying off the shelf. Once everyone picked up what they needed it was back in the vans and off to the mountain. Twenty minutes later we arrived to a slightly overcast sunny skies and a cool minus 5 degrees and empty runs, what more could you want!

Check-in to the super comfy accommodation was effortless and after some unpacking and a little relaxing, it was downstairs for a snack of soup and rolls to tide everyone over to dinner. With bellies full it was off for a walk through the village to stretch the legs and have a bit of a look around. At 3.00pm we did a short orientation to give everyone all the info they’ll need to make the most of their stay over the next 6 weeks or so and then headed to the season pass office to get everyone’s tickets

Dinner was at 6.00 and this gave everyone a chance to sample AWSC chef Emma's cooking for the first time. She didn't disappoint with a tasty homemade lasagna with a tossed salad and garlic bread. To round it out copious amounts of ice cream and chocolate sauce generated plenty of smiles on the weary faces.

After dinner everyone did their own thing. Some unpacked and got settled into their rooms while other chilled and watched DVD’s while others hit the X-Box.
